Troika continues to add bags, backpacks and accessory pouches made of rPET to its product line. rPET or recycled PET ( Polyethylene terephthalate) is the most common plastic in the polyester family and is also known as plastic number 1. The number symbol you see on your plastic water bottle when collecting your recyclables.
Since PET is made from Oil or Natural Gas. Reusing and recycling PET material is a wonderful step in reducing emissions and plastic trash and a step towards a more circular economy.
rPET can be spun into a strong and wonderful polyester fabric, that Troika uses for its Cooler Bag, Laptop Back Packs and Tech Accessory Pouches.
The Global Recycled Standard (GRS) is an internationally recognized standard that verifies that one or more specific input material is in a final product. The standard sets requirements for third-party certification of recycled input and aims to increase the use of recycled materials in textile products.
It is a full product standard that dictates social and environmental best practices, as well as chemical restrictions for fabrics, clothing, garments, accessories, and more. The GRS verifies recycled content in products to empower consumers to make informed decisions and is widely recognized and trusted around the globe. In the case of Troika rPET bags this means that the company, who manufactures Troika's rPET bags meets all the requirements and is Global Recycled Standard Certified for the rPET material it uses.
To become GRS certified, raw materials, intermediates, and final textile products must take sufficient steps to preserve the identity of the input material. The GRS label has strict guidelines and certification processes, and only products with at least 50% of recycled content qualify for product-specific GRS labeling. The standard applies to recycled garments, clothes, and final textile products, home textiles, fabrics, yarns, fibers, metal, plastic, and paper. The certification also applies to supply chain sites such as ginning, spinning, weaving and knitting, dyeing and printing, cutting and sewing.
The aim of the GRS certification is to verify responsible social, environmental, and chemical practices in the production of recycled products. It provides transparent, consistent, and comprehensive independent evaluation and verification of recycled material content claims on products. By verifying the claims made to consumers, the GRS certification provides a credible voice for suppliers and brands, leading to higher confidence in a system of standards recognized internationally. The GRS also drives the industry towards progress on sustainability goals and provides a credible assurance to the end consumer. When shopping for bags, accessories and clothes made from recycled materials, it is recommended to choose items that have been audited externally and verified according to the highest standards, such as the Global recycled standards certification.
